about

This album consists mainly of noisier pieces. In most cases they were put together fairly quickly to test synth installations and get my feet wet once I set everything up. In many ways, they are sonic 'Rube Goldberg' machines, where different processes trigger other processes, but here most (excepting Track 1) don't try to make any kind of coherent tonal statement - they're more about auditory amusement and evolving sonic sculpture. Again, there is no real-time 'performing' or knob-tweaking here (apart from the crowd-sourced input in Track 4 and a few mode switches in Track 1) - all sonic variety comes intrinsically from each synthesizer patch - what you hear is what it did live. More info on the synthesizer system that I designed and used here can be found at synth.media.mit.edu and paradiso.media.mit.edu/synth.html.
