I made the basic tracks for this piece in my apartment in Zurich in 1983, using the Casio 101, the Minimoog, the modified Casio VL-Tone, and assorted synth modules ad-hoc wired up to a power supply and jury-rigged mixer (I recall using a bar of soap as a fader - if you pushed wired pins into different places on the bar, the mix was different). The original version had no TV dialog on it or spacey keyboard at the end - instead it featured me playing melodica in the cavernous ETH parking garage in the middle interlude (I did the remix that you hear here in the studios of WMFO in 1985). I wanted to show off my newly-minted speech module (which became a cornerstone of my synth's sound ever since - I believe that this was the first piece I made that used it), here driving its input bits from my pseudo-random sequencer. The MiniMoog bass line came from the desire to get something close to an intense King Crimson style riff. As usual, this one went off somewhere else...
